Has anyone else been listening to Wilco’s new album “A Ghost Is Born”? I’m loving it!

305

Monday, June 28th, 2004

I’ve been curious about the square footage of my studio apartment ever since I moved in November. I always assumed it was somewhere between 350 and 450 square feet. Sadly, I was wrong. Grand Total: 305 square feet. Two adults and two cats live in this space. That includes a small closet, bathroom, kitchen area, [...]

Know Neighborhoods by Their Book Buying

Monday, June 28th, 2004

Interesting article in the NY Times about the types of books that are purchased in different neighborhoods: To find out who lives in specific New York City neighborhoods, call the Census Bureau. To determine which neighborhoods have the most crime, ask the Police Department. But to learn what is on a neighborhood’s mind, visit its [...]

Essential Contemporary Reads

Sunday, June 27th, 2004

Sadly, I’ve only read eight of the books on Guardian’s Top 50 Essential Contemporary Reads. I’m happy to see Donna Tartt’s The Secret History and Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook on the list. It’s difficult to take this list seriously, though. Only 500 people were surveyed!

The Terminal

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Tuesday night I went to see an advanced screening of The Terminal starring Tom Hanks. Although there are a few funny moments (most with Mr. LittleJeans), it’s just not worth ten bucks to see it in the theater. Tom Hanks does give a fair performance, but Catherine Zeta-Jones is just dull in this film (although [...]

Franchia

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

On my way home from an interview, I saw a vegetarian Korean restaurant called Franchia. Their menu has an entire section dedicated to tea! I can’t wait to eat there.

The New Pavement?

Thursday, June 10th, 2004

Do you miss Pavement? Is Stephen Malkmus’ second solo album just not cutting it? Then get your fix with Sam Champion! Yes, he’s a complete Pavement rip-off. No, he doesn’t cover any new ground. But I just don’t care. I need some new Pavement tunes and this is as close as it gets. There are [...]
