I Feel Like an Old Woman
December 14th, 2005Yesterday definitely started off with a bang, not a whimper. While I was getting ready for work I either passed out or had a seizure. I went into the kitchen to see if the cats needed more food. The next moment I remember was waking up on the floor and feeling very sore. I had hit the back of my head, side of my arm, and scraped my back. It’s very disorienting to wake up and not know what just occurred. Both of my cats were sitting beside me and just staring at me. After a few moments to collect myself, I stood up and called Christian. From looking at the clock, I predict I had been down for about 15 minutes.
So far I’ve had a physical, blood work and an EKG. For 24 hours I’ll be wearing a heart monitor (see pictures below).

The heart monitor is pretty interesting. Precisely, it’s a Burdick Digital Vision 5-lead (5 electrodes) holter recorder with a compact flash card. List price: $2,299. Yes, I feel nerdy knowing that, but I feel like an old woman wearing it. I should be walking at the mall, playing bingo, or reminiscing about the price of bread back in 1923.
Today I go back for more tests including a CT scan, which I’m told is similar to a CAT scan or MRI. They may also hook up electrodes (like the ones I’m currently wearing) to my head. If so, pictures coming soon! That would make a great holiday card.
I feel fine other than being sore from the fall. I should even be able to go back to work tomorrow. Needless to say, I did not make it to the E.L. Doctorow reading last night.
