GTD: Mac Software Options

January 30th, 2006

GTDThis week I’ll be looking into the best software options for implementing the Getting Things Done (GTD) system on an iBook. I’ve already ruled out Life Balance, Kinkless’ kGTD (requires OmniOutliner Pro), and FileMaker due to their high prices.

Below are the software programs I downloaded to test their compatibility with GTD.

  • DevonThink 1.9.6; $40; several people have created GTD templates for this program using the Pro edition. However, Pro is $75. Opening DevonThink Personal edition is overwhelming at first. I wish there was a sample installation to get me started.
  • Formation 1.1.4; $29.95; this program is also overwhelming at first. Luckily the sample is a great tutorial.
  • Mori 1.1.3; $27.95; I like that Mori is not produced by a large company…and it’s the cheapest of the bunch!
  • StickyBrain 4; $39.99; has many features I need for GTD and will sync with my iPod.
  • Yojimbo 1.0; $39.99; the simplest program to use, but has less features. But it’s less than a week old, so I’m sure more features are coming. Can I be patient?

My next action item is to set up each program to use the GTD system and record the results.
Wish me luck!
